ABOUT THE CENTURY FLIGHT CLUB
The Century Flight Club was formed in 2009 on the 100th anniversary of flight in Canada. The club’s mandate is simple: to promote the discovery of Canada by private airplane. The Club’s first official function was sponsoring the largest Cross Canada Flight in Canada when, in 2009, 100 aircraft flew from Vancouver to Baddeck Nova Scotia. The purpose of these annual flights is to make Cross Canada flight accessible to general aviation pilots by organizing long distance flights.
In March 2011 the club announced an exclusive Insurance plan available through Air 1 insurance and available only to Century Flight Club members. Now every year an annual Convention has become the centrepiece of the Club. Generally each year these events are sellouts with registrations are kept to 100 aircraft. Today the Club has 500 members and will grow to 1000 members Canada wide by 2013. In December of 2011 the Club ‘ Archives will receive the donation of the 4000 pictures and over 40 hours of video of aircraft and wilderness locations from the files of New Edge Entertainment.
The club was founded by John Lovelace one of Canada’s best known Pilots. John has been a lifelong advocate of encouraging newer pilots to break out of their comfort zone of the Sunday afternoon Apple pie flights. John hosted the Wings Over Canada TV for 12 years which ran with 56 broadcasters world wide. Recently John created and produced the Aviators TV series for Global TV and PBS. John is a former bush pilot with 30 years flying floats in Northern Canada. Today John fly’s his twin engine Piper Navajo which was the lead aircraft in the 100 year Cross Canada Flight.
John is a recipient of the Presidents award for COPA and a past President of the Kingston Flying Club.
Today the club has grown to include Flight Marshals and Directors from all over Canada. Presently sitting on the management committee are Dave Fitzpatrick, Peter Lubig, Dave Qualley, Janis Wallace and Vic Sedar.
But the club is much more. There is an active membership rewards programme which now offers huge discounts on Aircraft Insurance. To get the discounts you must be a member. We have also set up group discounts on car rentals and hotels to help you save money as you move around the country. We have even set up pilot supplies discounts to help get you there. We are also excited about launching our own WEB TV channel Youaviation.tv in 2012.
There members will soon be able to post their own videos and pictures of their airplanes and their adventures. We have active social forums on Facebook and twitter and every Christmas there is a party in BC and Ontario.
